Ear Piercing in Conroe, TX: Lobe, Helix, Tragus and Conch

Thinking about a ear piercing? This page covers questions to ask about placement, initial jewelry, healing and aftercare. Downtown Piercing is coming soon to downtown Conroe, next door to Downtown Tattoo Company. We are not open and are not taking appointments yet; sign up on our homepage to hear when booking opens.

    Lobe and cartilage are different

Lobe piercings go through soft tissue. Helix, forward helix, tragus, conch, rook, daith and industrial piercings go through cartilage, which usually takes longer to heal and is more sensitive to pressure and bumps. Ask the piercer which placements suit the shape of your ear.

    Tragus, conch and helix placement

The tragus is the small flap in front of the ear canal, the conch is the inner cup of the ear, and the helix is the outer rim. Each sits under different everyday pressure from earbuds, phones, hats and sleeping. Ask how that affects jewelry choice and healing for the placement you want.

Why a studio uses a needle

Studios that do body piercing typically use single-use sterile needles rather than piercing guns for cartilage. Ask what method will be used, how it is sterilized and why. Texas treats ear-only businesses differently from body piercing studios; see our age requirements guide for details.

    Aftercare basics

Follow the written aftercare from the piercer who did your piercing. In general, keep hands off the jewelry, keep the area clean and avoid soaking it in pools, lakes or hot tubs while it heals. Contact your piercer with questions, and see a healthcare professional for signs of infection.
